Pros and Cons of song choices

These are the 3 songs that we chose when thinking what song to do for our A Level music video.

When looking at these songs, we all liked them but had to only do one and understood that there could be some problems when coming to film some of them so here are our pros and cons for the 3 songs that we chose.

Chance the rapper-Angles

PROS

  • It is an upbeat song that many people would enjoy and like to listen to.
  • Respected rapper that many people know
  • Isn't signed to a label.
CONS

  • We Realised that after watching the video that he did himself, it was going to be pretty hard to beat as it was so good.
  • not everyone in our group thought that the song was that good to do.

Tyler the Creator-Bastard

PROS

  • Very good song that people don't know much about
  • the lyrics are worded very well
  • hes a lyrical genius
CONS

  • Has some very rude words in the song
  • He is signed to a label but also to himself.
  • Its hard to get an idea of how to film the video because he hasn't released one himself.
Tyler the creator-Yonkers

PROS

  • We all liked the song
  • We all had good ideas of how we could film the video
  • Good beat to it
  • We had the right props and people for the video to make it look legit.
CONS

  • Has a lot of swearing in the song
  • May have to sensor some of the words
  • People who don't get the meaning of the song may think its awful

These are words I associate with our artist and our song called 'Yonkers'. This will help me to come up with a concept for our CD digipak.

Health & Safety Planning

Health & Safety Planning

Health & Safety is extremely important to ensure that all members of the team are safe when filming in locations which may be deemed as dangerous. Our video doesn’t require any locations which will put any team member in danger, however we can still prevent possible injury and making sure we are all safe by following a few rules:

·        Camera strap is around neck at all times

·        Each member knows their role and what they are doing properly

·        Get granted permission to film in the locations we need to use

·        Make sure the costume fits properly and is safe

·        Any props used are toy props. Anything that could be seen as a weapon is handled with extra pre caution

·        All members of the team are well and aware of what they are doing

·        Filming area is clear and safe for the rapper

Our music video doesn’t require much health and safety planning due to the simplicity of it. However we still need to follow these crucial rules to make sure that when we do film we prevent any injury from happening and that each member of the group is safe.

Case Studies of Iconic Directors

Mark Romanek

Mark Romanek is a three time major grammy award winning American director. He has performed extremely well many times within the music videos which he has created. The most symbolic and iconic music video was a cover of the song "Hurt", this was sung by Johnny Cash who was a big musician to be working with Mark. This was the last music video that Johnny ever did. Knowing this, Mark created what seemed to be a very simple but effective video that had a lot of personal meaning to it. The video was up for 6 nominations in the 2002 MTV music video awards and managed to win best Cinematography. In 2004, after directing Jay-Z's 99 problems music video, Mark won best director, just one of the 4 wins in which the video succeeded in. Mark Romanek has won 19 MTV awards and i believe he is great at what he does.

Below shoes a screenshot of all the music videos that Mark directed. He has directed some famous musicians show below such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Red hot chilli peppers and Taylor Swift. This shows that people do respect him and his work because of the names that he's worked with and how well those music videos came out.

Vloggers Reacting/Reviewing music videos

Pros

  • Youtubers are very personal with the viewers and you can tell their honest opinion.
  • Youtube is easily accessable to everyone in the world
  • You can share the videos with everyone very easily
  • It is interesting to see other peoples views on music
Cons

  • It can be boring to watch other people listen and react to music
  • People may think that the vlogger is biased towards the artist and they do not like that

Different ways that rappers promote their music videos

Clothing: The types of brands that they wear. It influences people to go and buy the brands if they see their idol wearing the same brands.

Youtube: They can easily promote their music on the video sharing website and is also easily accessable which is good for them.

Record label: Lots of awareness comes from a record label.
