Editing

Each sequence in the clips shown shows the type of genre that i'm doing. For example in one of the clips there is rap music and i am dancing and lip syncing to the words so it looks like i'm in the video. The cinematography shown is the angles that are used. In the clip there are high angles and low angles. We decided to use both as it shows that there is diversification in the music video with different shot types. With regards to the editing, i used colour isolation to make just my shirt red and the rest of the frame black and white. This makes me stand out as I am the centre of attention and need to be seen throughout the whole video. For mes-en-scene, I am wearing a Supreme denim jacket, this shows wealth as it is a well know expensive brand that a lot of people want.

Different Representations

The different sequences represent the various music video genres which we may think about doing.

The first scene is meant to represent a dark rap genre, very much like what we want to do for our actual music video. The camera goes in and out of focus while the character is in shallow focus the entire time. This is perfect for representing the emotions of the character to fit in with the genre. The other ideas consist of performance, spectacle and image,

The second one is meant to show image. He is walking slowly and the camera pans around him and his torso is in view the entire time. This represents him image, the way he is walking and the clothes he is wearing.

The third is meant to be a mix of image and spectacle, with both genres combining to represent the genre of rap. This is done by the way the artist is presenting himself as well as the effects on screen.

The final scene shows performance. In this scene it is only meant to show the music which is being played without any presentation of image. The mise-en-scene shows the piano and nothing else is really visible other than me playing it.

Representation video

The sequences represent three different music video genres. These different genres shown in the video consist of image, spectacle and narrative. The first sequence is image but the filter we incorporated into the shot makes it have elements of narrative. This is because the filter is very dark and it makes it look like raindrops or even tears are gently falling onto the screen. This represents the artists pain and anger as the filter makes it have a depressing tone. The raindrops and tears make the video seem more deep and powerful as if he is telling a story which reinforces the genre. We have also used the cinematography technique of shallow focus. At some parts of the video when he isn't lip syncing we used the shallow focus technique and when he was rapping we used we took the shallow focus off. This made it seem that what he was saying was very important. It also had elements of image because we just used close up shots for that sequence and the artist in the video was in the centre of the screen therefore showing that he is the main attraction. I would use this representation in our music video as the filters I used in this sequence clearly shows the meaning and genre.

The second sequence is spectacle but has elements of image as the editing technique I used for this makes it very unique and exciting to watch. The artist featured in this sequence is dancing and shown having fun. He also comes up towards the camera which shows he is the centre of attention. This reinforces the genre of image as he wants to show that he is the guy everyone should be watching and observing. I have edited the video so his actions are mirrored which makes it seem out of the ordinary and different from other music videos. This reinforces the genre of spectacle. This clip goes into the next sequence as I have used the editing technique called layering. The third sequence is image as the artist is slowly walking down a hall by himself. The location shows that he is isolated as the hall starts big and then becomes very narrow. We have also used a low angle shot on him to show his power and that he doesn't need anyone else.
